Why manufacture color when you can coax it from flower, root, and leaf? Why dampen the qualities of wool when it is already durable and low-maintenance without a plastic coating?
Dyeing with natural dyes is not easy, but there is beauty in a process that requires me to relinquish a sense of control and work with nature rather than over it and delight in the serendipity of the unpredictable.
Humility and play are two cornerstones of my dye practice—humility in working with materials that cannot be fully controlled and yet reward playful experimentation.

Discovered this yarn at Flock and fell in love! The yarn and colors achieved with botanical dyes is truly special! I had a lovely chat with Ethan and his sister while in their booth and hope to purchase more as soon as it is available! Should have bought more colors and tried more bases! Beautiful naturally dyed yarns in many colors and unique and creative patterns
The yarn is stunning. After buying enough for one project and thinking about another color all evening I went back for a second project the next day. Can't wait to get this on my needles, but in the meantime it looks gorgeous sitting in a handmade bowl on the table in my studio.
Pattern is written nicely, design is fun and relatively easy to do. Worked it in a "honeycomb" indie dyed yarn and it's perfect.

My first purchase from RLFA has been a delight. Great colors and excellent stitch definition.
I just love the whole idea! Actually I love the internet I don’t really enjoy social media but do get email from indie fiber shops. It is fun seeing little personal notes about inspiration and the dyer and then getting yarn in my mailbox. I like everything about RLF including Ethan’s creative philosophy, quiet affirmation of right and wrong and prioritizing family.
The colors I received of the mystery skeins were beautiful!! They do seem to be a heavier DK weight approaching a light worsted, as I did a swatch alongside one of my Malabrigo Rios skeins (a worsted weight yarn) and weight-wise the mystery skein I swatched was nearly the same weight, if not a taaad bit thicker than the Rios. Not an issue for me in the slightest but just wanted to mention it for anyone else looking at getting this lovely yarn!
